Prediction Pool Week 9
Oilers (6-2) vs Flames (4-3-1) Oilers lead season series 1-0
Grease backstopped the Oilers to a victory this week and collected his second shutout of the season. The Oilers machine just keeps grinding it’s way to the first ever HRHL Threepeat. Veinot scored two, Gallant had 1 and 1, MacQueen and Ross each scored one and lone assists went to Oliver, Redden and Skinner. No drafted players have been on the Oilers each of the last 3 years so the common denominator must be Skinny and Veinot. A combination of great drafting and great players has made this team the first HRHL dynasty since the Heighton/Webber Wolfpack days. The Flames lose and it is the first time in new Flames management history that they have back to Back losses. Bray scores the lone goal assisted by MacEachern. Tough to bounce back when you are facing the league’s top team, I guess we will see what the Flames are made of now that they face a little bit of controversy. Billard sees his goal and point streaks end at six games. Oilers win and they have a 4 point lead on the chase pack, a Flames win and it is 1, big game early on.

Ratpack (2-6) vs Rhinos (4-4) Rhinos lead season series 1-0
Two team facing off here who were shutout this week. I looked back in my documentation to see how long I have been doing this pool. First year was 2011/12. This is the first time in those 16 years that I have not had to report a single point awarded in a game because the teams were both shutout the previous week. So what do we use for filler? Let’s solve the teams issues for them shall we. The Rats need a bonding experience like the wrestling that only 5 of them showed up for. If the whole team was there they would be a tight knit group, tight knit groups are hard to beat. Maybe get the team group chat going. How many messages were in it this week, or does one even exist. To win at the rink you need to win away from the rink. The Rhinos issues are easier to solve. Stop being angry at Manson for being injured and go help him with his rehab. Putting in the rehab hours alone wondering if your team even remembers you can be the loneliest times in an athletes life. Go talk to him while he is in the cryo chamber, encourage him, be there for your guy. Manson returns and all the problems are solved. Well all except next year he has to be a round one pick. No way this team can be so dominant with him and so not without unless he is a true top end dude.
Rhinos 1 – Ratpack 0
Lions (4-4) vs Stars (4-4) Lions lead season series 1-0
From two teams that were shut down to the leagues two hottest teams. Can’t talk about either of these teams wins without mentioning that the EBUG of the week was Darryl Cameron. He subbed in for both the Lions and the Stars and allowed just 1 goal in the two games combined, these were his first games played in a year and a half. The Lions now own a 2 game win streak to get back to the 500 mark. Peddle returns from battling evil across the globe to score 1 and assist on another. Burgess scores one and assists go to Chappy and Captain NS Taiani. Murphy takes the week off to go to Edmonton to watch the Leafs vs Oilers. I hope he is a Leafs fan because that is a long way to go to watch the Oilers get punked by a so so at best Leafs team. The Stars were without their Stars or so everyone thought. Turns out the heart of this operation is Timmy Ryan who took the team on his shoulders by scoring twice and assisting twice, that doesn’t even count the top end defensive forward play. Manson might have some company in the first round next year as Tim is now second in the scoring race. The roof would have blown of the Centennial arena if Tim’s breakaway clapper was successful. Giles and Webber rode the Timmy Ryan express and grabbed a goal and 2 assists each, Tracey scored his first of the season and added a helper and single assists went to Bright, Duke and McNeil. With Holt on LTIR the Stars only have two lines and with Munden and Bent returning as obvious third liners the Stars have some tough lineup decisions to make this week.

Not many shootouts this year which is odd as the league is as tight as it has ever been through 8 games.
8 games, we are a third of the way through the season, seems like we just started.
With Billard being shut down this week we are down to just 3 guys who have a point in every game. Veinot and Ryan are easy picks but Rick Flinn is there too. Looking for a reason for the Oilers hot start. Rick was a 9th round selection and he is playing like a first.
Mike Oliver won the 50/50 draw put on by the Holt clan, $470 is a nice Friday night at the rink.
EBUG Cameron was very close to having his wife pull him from the games for health reasons. Haven’t seen a goalie that red since Pelly was backstopping the Pack and smoking darts in the dressing room.
Writing this on Sunday before football so I can’t update you on my week other than my opponent had Swift on Thursday and has a nice lead and is favored to win by 20.
McDavid is putting up numbers never seen before, even in a bad loss last night he had 2 apples. A PSA 10, rookie young gun of his recently sold for $53,000. Thes cards are only 10 years old, anyone of you have one or some? Check your kids stash, steal them from them and buy yourself a mid life crisis car.
Obama is hitting the campaign trail for the Democrats, regardless of your party affiliation it is nice to see a President who can speak. Trump and Biden between them look and sound like idiots next to this guy. A natural orator with personality to boot, no wonder he won over the American public.
There is snow in Alberta and BC, I despise the winter other than hockey and I play it in the summer too so I feel no need for this season. Forget no time change I vote for no season changes.
Speaking of Alberta, they overwhelmingly decided to stay in Canada, can we all stop talking about separation and realize despite our issues we live in the best country in the world. THE WORLD!
Hellebuyck goes to Jersey, not much of a return in my opinion. Could have made this deal months ago.

Speaking of the trade market, the Stars are accepting offers on Bent and Munden, grab one or both, no reasonable offer refused.
Not a huge fan but the NBA returned and Kawhi is looking like the best player in the East. Could the Raptors be a force again?
I may be mistaken but I thought Kawhi was bald, did he go to the Hair club for men?

Havey’s Steele Subarus in the same league are off to a mixed 4-5-1 start but they looked great the 2 games I have seen. I think they have a legit title shot with some small tweaks.
Get out there and watch/support the game at all levels, no better place to be that the rink.
